SBC technical support to UNICEF

Dominique Thaly has carried out several communication for development support for UNICEF in Africa. This includes support for the "Making Data Talk" project in education and support for the UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa office's C4D systemic strengthening project.

  • Back-to-School (BTS) Campaign (UNICEF ESARO)

Dominique collaborated in the Back-to-School (BTS) Campaign conducted by  UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa: she supported Country Officess to design, implement, monitor and document BTS C4D initiatives, focusing on the strengthening of the community engagement platforms leveraged to ensure that the majority of learners return to school, including the most vulnerable.

  • Data Must Speak (DMS) (UNICEF ESARO & WCARO)

The Data Must Speak (DMS) project aimed to introduce community participation and social accountability in education for improved learning outcomes and equity in education in Africa. This work was based on the development and use of simplified school and community dashboards in 7 participating African countries (Chad, Niger, Togo, Namibia, Zambia, Madagascar and Angola). 

Dominique was responsible for developing guidelines and toolkits, as well as drafting action plans and case studies. She provided technical support to countries by conducting assessments and proposing country action plans. This project was carried out in collaboration with the UNICEF Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa and headquarters in New York.

  • Systemic strengthening of C4D (UNICEF ESARO)

As part of the systemic strengthening of C4D at the UNICEF Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa, Dominique developed a framework for measuring C4D outcomes, outcome chains, and outcome indicators. She also developed checklists to improve the quality of C4D strategic and technical documents for the 21 countries in the region, as well as a strategic framework for C4D capacity building. Dominique prepared and facilitated a C4D training session in Madagascar.
