ATI collaborated with the Consortium of Communication for Social Change (CFSC) on the project to evaluate communication for behavior change and social mobilization of the Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases Project in the Sahel (Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso). This project is implemented by WAHO (West African Organization of ECOWAS), with funding from the World Bank.
The objective of the study was to assess the extent to which communication activities have contributed to individual and collective acceptance of preventive and curative treatments and drugs for malaria and neglected tropical diseases (lymphatic filariasis, schistosomiasis, trachoma, intestinal worms and onchocerciasis) proposed to the populations concerned and to local, regional and national health actors. The evaluation was carried out through a review of the literature and project documents, a qualitative survey and a quantitative survey.
ATI, in collaboration with the CFSC, developed the study methodology, recruited the principal investigators in the three countries, and coordinated field data collection, data analysis, and report writing—all within a very challenging health and security context, as the study took place in 2020 in the so-called “Three Borders” region.
The study’s outputs were:
- A review of project documents and literature;
- A qualitative and quantitative survey protocol;
- Three country reports;
- A regional report;
